About the company : Ruhe Varens is a modern plant nursery located near the famous Flora Holland flower auction in Aalsmeer, at the heart of the Dutch horticultural industry. The company operates two locations covering a total area of about 4.4 hectares, specializing in the cultivation of high-quality ferns.
The entire production process, from seed sowing, pricking out, planting and further plant care, is carried out in-house. This allows for complete control at every stage of the ferns’ growth, ensuring optimal conditions for their development.
Once the plants reach their full potential and perfect appearance, they are distributed to a wide range of clients, such as wholesalers, florists and garden centers. Ferns are popular not only in the Netherlands but also throughout Europe and the world, ensuring that the company’s products reach customers on every continent.
About the Jobs
Working at Ruhe Varens involves various stages of fern production and distribution, including both plant care tasks and logistics for sales. The main responsibilities of employees include:
Department 1: Plant Care and Cultivation:
- Sowing seeds, pricking out and planting ferns.
- Regular plant maintenance, including watering, fertilizing and trimming.
- Monitoring plant health and controlling environmental conditions in the nursery, such as temperature and humidity, to ensure optimal plant growth.
Department 2: Preparation for Sale:
- Repotting plants into appropriate pots.
- Preparing ferns for transport, which involves carefully packaging the plants to ensure they reach customers safely.
- Quality control before shipping to ensure that only healthy, strong and attractive plants are sent to customers.
Department 3: Logistics and Sales:
- Coordinating orders and shipments to wholesale clients, exporters, florists and garden centers.
- Collaborating with logistics partners to organize transportation, both within the Netherlands and internationally.
- Maintaining customer relationships and fulfilling orders according to their expectations.
Expected Working Hours: Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 16:30.
Job offer requirements:
- Availability to work for at least 6-12 months.
- Motivation to work: Overtime and Saturday work may be required during busy periods. During quieter periods, willingness to work for other clients is expected.
- Couples and friends are not guaranteed to work in the same department or shift. Work schedules are assigned individually.
- Candidates who start from September onwards are expected to work during the Christmas and New Year period.
- No contraindications to working in temperatures between 15°C and 27°C
- Precision skills: Working with very small plants requires great accuracy and patience to ensure correct planting.
- Teamwork skills: Collaboration with other employees in the greenhouse and production to ensure smooth processes.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks: The job requires high concentration, even when performing similar tasks for extended periods.
